When you’ve found your soulmate and are lucky enough to be spending your lives together, it’s important not to take your good fortune for granted. Have you ever gone all gooey-eyed at the sight of a passing octogenarian couple holding hands and clearly still very much in love? That could be you – if you play your cards right.
Spending quality time together is at the heart of every successful relationship. Making time to reconnect as a couple, away from everyday hassles, is something you need to prioritise. If you don’t, life has a tendency to take over until, suddenly, the daily demands of juggling careers, kids and the home have become all-consuming, leaving little time to spend with your partner in a meaningful way. Don’t let that happen to you.
Anniversaries are an obvious occasion for recharging your romantic batteries – but once a year is nowhere near enough! Birthdays, days off, Bank Holiday weekends, short breaks…. take any opportunity that presents itself (better still, create a few of your own!) and whisk the love of your life away on a special date to show you still care deeply.
Make it fun, make it exciting, keep it affordable or go all-out – it doesn’t really matter as long as you both enjoy your time together and keep bonding as a couple. Before you know it, you’ll want to it all again very soon!
Here are three of the coolest ideas to get you started.
Glamping: It’s camping, but not as we know it
If you love the Great Outdoors and the feeling of freedom that comes from being off grid, camping is a great idea. How about taking the experience up a notch and treating yourself and the missus to more upmarket facilities?
Seek out ‘glamping’ sites with yurts, tipis or shepherd’s huts, or stay in a fully insulated purpose-built eco pod, complete with lighting and heating. Some have wood burning stoves or cooking facilities. You can even hire fully kitted out treehouses that come with private toilet facilities and springwater showers!
For oodles of quirky 1950s style, you can’t beat a classic American Airstream trailer, with its aluminium panels shaped into a striking silver bullet. These beautiful vintage caravans are lovingly restored and renovated, keeping the retro 1950s interior styling. No wonder they command a huge cult following.
Cuddle up and snuggle down with your partner in crime and be grateful, and perhaps a teeny big smug, for all that you have.
Formula 1: Life in the fast lane
If you and your other half like nothing better than the adrenaline rush that comes from watching Formula 1 motor racing, why not jet out there together to see the F1 Grand Prix live? Book an all-inclusive 3-day luxury break to a European destination – perhaps Barcelona or Monaco in May, Austria and Hungary in July – and make a mini-holiday of it.
The package will include your flights and luxury hotel, airport and race course transfers and, of course, entrance tickets to the practice day and the main race event. Hospitality options, VIP upgrades, grandstand seating, additional sightseeing… it’s all possible.
Just think: the ability to share your passion for fast cars with the person you love most in the world should make for a heady, exhilarating few days!
Get creative and make beautiful memories
Why not go and learn a new skill together? Do something you’ve never done before and bring back a memento of your special shared day to treasure. There are 1-day courses and workshops up and down the country offering a fascinating array of things you can explore together.
How about a one-day course based around a foodie theme – organic chocolate making, craft beer brewing, or perhaps a cheese making course or Japanese sushi masterclass? Broaden your horizons together as you indulge each other’s passions for delicious treats.
For the artistically minded, there are activities to introduce you to glass blowing, stained glass panelling, jewellery or pottery making. Why not record your own special duet in a professional recording studio, or have a couples makeover and photoshoot? It’s amazing what you can achieve in only one day – and you’ll have a piece of your experience to take home with you afterwards.
