The innocence, charm and nostalgia of the Moomins returns this autumn as MOOMINS ON THE RIVIERA arrives on digital platforms and DVD NOW, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
We we’re invited a long to a private screening of this clever movie. I’ve not actually seen any of the previous movies but I do remember watching them on TV once when I was much younger. It’s very witty, funny & very cleverly put together for both kids and adults. At times I found myself saying ‘really’ and looking over to Rovi who was laughing too. I tell you, that Snorkmaiden is something else – very special.
Overall we had an absolute blast.
Based on the beloved Finnish comic strip by Tove Jansson, this delightful animation featuring the voice talents of Russell Tovey (Moomin) and Tracey Ann Oberman (Moominmamma) sees the Moomins embark on a very different kind of adventure, away from the safety of Moominland.
The Moomins, Snorkmaiden and Little My, in search of adventures of their own, set sail for the Riviera, where, following a journey fraught with menacing storms and desert island dangers, Snorkmaiden is dazzled by the attentions of a playboy and Moomin (Tovey) learns that jealousy’s sting is the most painful of all.
Meanwhile Moominpappa befriends an aristocrat and adopts the name ‘de Moomin’. An exasperated Moominmamma (Oberman) retires to the relative calm of their trusty old boat, to wait for her family to come to their senses. For the very first time, the unity of the Moomins is threatened…
Returning to home entertainment screens in a beautiful array of warm pastel colours, MOOMINS ON THE RIVIERA is a simple, sweet tale about the basic pleasures of home and hearth; a treat for the whole family. It would make the perfect Christmas present, very fitting for a Christmas morning movie.
