There are many things you can do to improve the value of your home. Here are some quick and easy ways to increase your property value without breaking the bank.

Get Rid of the Clutter

One of the biggest turn-offs to buyers is a messy home. If you have junk stored around the yard and on verandahs you will devalue your home. It’s that simple. De-clutteringshould be the first job on your list. Youmay be used to all the junk you have standing around, but someone new to your home will find it very off-putting. Getting rid of clutter will also help make your propertyappear more spacious. If you are ahoarder and not good at de-cluttering, enlist the help of a friend or family member whohas the abilityto be honest with you.Don’t just shove everything into the shed, into wardrobes and cupboards and under beds. Potential buyers will most likely look in all these places and be really turned off if they find them full of junk. It also gives the perception that there is not enough storage in your home. Throw out what you can, if there is a lot to get rid of and you don’t want the hassle of endless runs to the tip, then consider hiring a skip bag or even a full sized skip if you have a lot of stuff to be thrown out. If you have things that are still in good working order, then consider donating the good items to the charity box and if you still have left overs, pack them into boxes and store them off site.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to freshen up your home for resale is to paint it. A fresh coat of paint on the exterior, if it needs it, as well as in the living room, kitchen and main bedroom, will usuallybe sufficient. These are the areas that buyers will notice the most. When painting, go for neutral colours. It’s a mistake to use bright colours as these are very much a matter of personal taste. Good colours are whites, taupes, and egg shell creams. Stick to one colour throughout the house.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is a really important consideration for most buyers and one of the biggest issues that will stop someone from buying a particular home is the kitchen cupboards. If these are shabby or out of date consider replacing them or add some fresh paint to give them a new lease of life. Again, neutral colours work best. Don’t neglect giving the kitchen some special attention as it is often the deal maker or breaker.
