App Of The Week: Good Night Mo

We were asked to review a brand new charming bedtime routine app called Good Night Mo. This little beauty is an awesome companion for children and parents. See what we thought.

Goodnight Mo is a magically sleepy and comforting bedtime book, designed to help parents settle children between the ages of 15 months and three years into a comforting nightly bedtime routine.  A gentle and soothing app, Goodnight Mo reinforces the key steps to a child’s bedtime, without over-stimulating them.

“As a parent myself, I appreciate the role that establishing a good bedtime routine plays in a child’s attitude to sleep,” said Barry O’Neill, CEO of StoryToys.  “The ritual of sharing a book at bedtime has always been an important one, and whether that takes place with a traditional book or an interactive one, we hope that Goodnight Mo will give parents and children the opportunity to experience some relaxing and enjoyable time together at the end of the day.”
As night falls and the moon rises, a cute little monster called Mo starts to get ready for bed.  From the very first yawn, little ones will discover enchanting surprises in each of the 3D pop-up scenes: they will delight in gently sending various animals to the land of nod, popping bubbles in a bath, brushing Mo’s teeth, and rocking the little monster to sleep.   Beautiful imagery, gently rhyming narration, and soothing music make Mo’s bedtime routine the perfect way to wind down before going to sleep.

The book includes the following features:
  – A full 3D experience: It’s just like a real book
  – Wonderful illustrations with beautiful, colourful imagery
  – 8 enchanting 3D pop-up scenes, packed with simple animations and interactive elements
  – Read to Me or Read it Myself modes
  – A charming musical score and soft, sleepy sound effects
  – English, French, German and Spanish versions, with more to follow.
  – Full narration in each language by professional actors

Goodnight Mo launched in the App Store on 3rd October 2013 and is priced at £1.99
The app will be coming soon to Android.

Overall:
As you may all know I have such a hard time getting Hayden to sleep at night… Maybe because we don’t always stick to a routine – Oh wait, does he even have one? hmmm.

With advice I found that starting a routine early and sticking to was a key importance at helping quite a bit. So combining a little app that shows a bedtime routine and interaction for the your little one (they all love tapping away at their parents phones and tables) I think this 3D app book has hit the nail on its head and is great, Hayden and I had so much fun with this at bed time.
Because we do a lot of what Mo does before bed I think maybe Hayden can relate to the character well .. Not to mention Hayden is a right little monster too.

The graphics are excellent, the narrator is a man with a really nice strong but soft voice and you can also read along because the text appears on the screen too. Pretty much everything from Mo to the flowers in the garden and the rubber duckies in the bath are interactive by pressing on them more then once, I love how after about 3 taps they fall asleep.

At first I did think that the price was a little bit ambition coming in at £1.99 but I can understand why, you have quality which is a must and awesome interaction too. We usually read it about 3 times before its lights out so if it is your nighttime story book you will absolutely get your monies worth.

It would be great to see Mo do other stuff maybe during the day as another app and build up his character – hes so cute and totally lovable!
