Brit Mums Live 2013 Part One

If I could describe this brilliant social gathering in just one word it would be #Amazeballs

“BritMums Live! is the UK’s biggest, two-day social media conference and blogger event, where lifestyle bloggers and social influencers gather to meet and socialise, network with brands, improve their skills, and fire their creativity. BritMums Live has grown out of BritMums, the UK’s largest parent blogger community, made up of nearly 5,000 influential bloggers who create content about lifestyle, crafting, food, health, travel, education, tech, style and more.”

I have felt anxiety in the past but not as much as I did leading up to my first biggest blogging event EVER! I only started to feel more settled the night before, and even then the next morning I felt it all coming back again. The 21st of June 2013 which was a Friday butterflies came over me as I got ready to meet Kerry from Oh So Amelia & Bex from Futures at Moorgate station – I live in East London so it was one straight train journey to the event.

Walking up the stairs of the station to reach street level I thought I was going to be sick, no lie – I was scared to meet someone who I’ve spoken to nearly everyday for the past 2 years (sounds like something from MTVs Catfish) but I really was. Funny enough when I saw the beautiful Kerry and Bex standing outside the coffee shop I was 75% my normal self and gave them huge cuddles. It was surreal meeting people that you’ve only ever spoken to online or on the phone. I couldn’t believe it, it might sounds stupid to some people but a lot of the ladies I talk to online are AMAZING people and having an insight into their lives makes me feel like I’ve known them for years C-R-A-Z-Y!

The three of us walked up and down the bloody high road trying to find somewhere to have something to eat and chat. Eventually we walked passed the venue ‘The Brewery‘ then down a street full of food stalls before stopping at a cute little pub called The Trader
We sat down and had lunch while chatting away and messaging our forth member Nicola from Nicola Life Through My Eyes who took a train in from Leeds.

Time was ticking, two O’clock was approaching – It was time to come face to face with a ton of mum bloggers who I’ve looked up to from that first day I decided to make a blog. Have I ever said it to them? not in so many words but I just hope they all know that they are all amazing.

Yep – Getting emotional AGAIN!

Anywho… walking up to the venue I said that looks like Nic and the other two like totally didn’t believe me. We were pretty far away so I could have easily been mistaken, but I was right we were pretty far behind and there was no way I was going to shout her name out and get ignored, so she went into the hotel reception and I went up behind her and said “Hi sexy” LOOOL her face was priceless. Gave her a great massive big cuddle and then was introduced to more mummy bloggers who I’ve only ever spoken to on twitter. The lovely Leyla from This Day I Love, Lisa from Hollybobbs & not forgetting Katie from Mummy Daddy and Me. It was crazy I was like to Leyla can I hug you, I’m a hugger PMSL (who says that?).

While Nicola sorted herself out we waited outside in the gorgeous courtyard of the The Brewery and was joined by Sarah from Mummy in Training & Zoe from My Mummy’s World. It was like having nearly the whole of my usually Twitter timeline in one place.
Finally the doors opened and we went in Eeeek! The tables were all lined up for us to get our badges by surname in alphabetical order.

Once we sorted our badges out we headed over to the hub to check out all the amazing brands that came to show off their stuff
Bex and I headed straight into the Warner Brothers room to check out Harry Potter, Lego and Movies stuff that they had on offer.

We didn’t get to stay long as It was time to go to our Brit Mums Live welcome talk. It was so lovely to actually find out who was behind BritMums

Our first keynote speaker was the lovely Kirstie Allsopp from Channel 4 property programme Location, Location, Location. This woman was so flipping cool – She gave us an insight to her life and how she made it to where she is today. Total inspiration! I loved how she set up her talk and question time – Such a prepared lady (Yes I took note).

After Kirstie talk we were then able to switch rooms and go to whichever session suited us best as the type of blogger. We stayed in the main hall for the Brand Debate which was a panel of bloggers and brands giving us information on what brands and bloggers really want from each other in the blogging world.
It really opened my eyes to what to do when approaching brands or PRs and being straight forward. Let the brand know what you have to offer them and see what they can also offer you. Its not only about what freebies you can get or getting paid but building up a long term relationship and growing together.
After that it was time to grab a coffee and mingle in the hub again we made sure we visited all the brands in there we laughed and networked so much that our mind was buzzing afterwards.

A big thank you to Coke Cola, Orlando Holidays, Britax, Acer, SodaStream & Mam for taking time out and talking to us, getting to know us and telling us more about their companies.

After the chitchat in the hub it was back to the main hall for a talk on ‘Getting Paid’ Yes… You can get paid for blogging and this is a great way to make money as long as you follow all the rules and regulations (Coming in Part 2). If you haven’t noticed I do have sponsored posts up from companies from time to time which usually contain a link, linking back to a company and I get paid to do that – I always declare this at the bottoms of my post so there is no illusion as to what I blog about – I try my hardest to only accept sponsored post that relate to what we like as a family and things that will be beneficial to you guys, my readers.
Getting paid to blog is an absolute blessing in disguise, I LOVE blogging, I get so into it sometimes that it goes totally over my head but the one thing I have leant about blogging is that I should be very proud of MY BLOG! I have worked very hard on it and I love what I do.
I don’t actually thank people enough for taking the time out to read my posts and comment – YOU GUYS ROCK!
If you do want to blog for money then the best thing to do is be proud of what you do, don’t let ANYONE discourage you, know what you want & make a media kit (I don’t have one but I will make one very soon)
The day ended with loads of kisses and cuddles as I didn’t attend the BIBs awards ceremony but went home to my poorly boy who yet again had another allergic reaction, to what I don’t know. Roll on 29th July so we can finally know what my little caterpillar is allergic to.
From what I heard the lovely attendees had an awesome time & even had fireworks to top off their awesome day.
Part 2 coming soon

    • No No No, don’t think that hunny. If you have any worries contact Britmums and I’m sure they will be able to help you in the best way they can. Start asking for sponsors from now.

Also don’t see it as how ‘big’ your blog is see what you can offer them on a longish term basis – Blogger’s are very valuable when it comes to promotions hunny & remember quality over quantity!
