The NCT Bednest (co-sleeper)

– Advantages of bed-sharing without actually sharing a bed –

The UK’s amazing largest charity for parents NCT have joined forces with the Award Winning Bednest and have created the brilliant ‘NCT Bednest’

The NCT Bednest is a bedside crib, which health professionals agree is the safest place for a baby to sleep, and aims to help babies, parents, and the whole family, safely get more sleep.

When Hayden was newborn I had such a hard time with him especially being so ill after labour and him not sleeping because he was constantly waking for a feed (breastfeeding).
We co-slept (but I didn’t sleep) I felt squashed being in the middle and he constantly rolled over to be closer to me… Not that I was complaining – cuddles but I needed my sleep & couldn’t in fear of squishing my little caterpillar.

Bednest has worked closely with NCT to use all the best available information on infant feeding, bonding and sleeping to solve the dilemma faced by parents who want the advantages of sleeping with their baby in bed with them, but are concerned about the perceived risks of sharing their bed with their baby.

– Good Night … Good Morning –

So really the NCT Bednet would have been perfect for me being a brestfeeding new mother who wanted to co-sleep for both our benefits.

The NCT Bednest also attaches to the side of your bed, which is fully adjustable to suit your bed and locks secure into place with two safety locks. I did notice that when you have a Moses basket or certain other co-sleepers they are really high up & we have a low bed so its brilliant that it does adjust to suit all needs.

The benefits of using a NCT Bednest
Easier night-time breastfeeding that is less disruptive to sleep. You don’t have to get up out of bed to breastfeed, taking much of the hassle out of night feeding and you can move the baby in and out of your bed with minimal disruption to you and your partner
·
Having the baby right beside you means you can instantly respond when he or she becomes restless or cries without getting up. With the baby so close, it’s easier to pick up on the first signs of them stirring. You can then comfort the baby through touch and voice before these signs turn into tears and cries
·         Peace of mind for parents (and their baby). Bedside sleeping using the NCT Bednest is an easy, safe way to sleep in the kind of close proximity that halves the chance of dying from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) compared to sleeping in a room alone or with other children. Because the baby has their own separate sleep space, he or she is right there; you don’t need to worry about airways becoming covered by bedding or limbs

Sleeping close by aids bonding and the baby’s development. Parents can sleep with the baby in touching distance for the first six months, enabling them to supply the levels of sustained, high-quality emotional and physical contact that are important for the baby’s brain to mature normally and for parent-baby bonding

How cool is that tilt feature?
The NCT Bednest is the only bedside crib that can tilt. Although research evidence has not found a significant benefit from raising one end of the cot, testimonials from parents tell us the tilt function can help to alleviate the symptoms of reflux, which some babies experience in the first three months
Mums recovering from a caesarean, whose mobility is reduced, can feed and comfort the baby at night-time easily as they don’t have to leave their bed to do so
With all these points & watching the video I will seriously consider buying the NCT Bednest for baby number two. Hayden would only sleep in his Moses basket but he would get up every two hours (YEP EVERY TWO HOURS) for a feed. It was draining not to mention I had to get out of bed and walk to the otherside of the room after recovering from High Blood Pressure & an Infection, so this would be a dream come true.

The NCT Bednest costs £299 and is available, along with lots of additional information on its benefits and how it works. Free UK Delivery & Special Charges for worldwide orders. Simply visit www.bednest.com and from the NCT Shop at www.nctshop.co.uk or call on 08458 100 100.

  1. I really like the idea of a bednest. I had a c-section and found it painful getting in and out of the bed to take Princess out of her cot for feeds during the night. We co-slept a lot of the time but having her right next to the bed in her own sleeping space is a good idea.
I think it is a little over priced though. We have a brilliant high quality cot bed that is still going strong. It cost us £350 and this is nearly as expensive eeeeek!
